Lifestyle Tips for Embracing Your Mature Skin

Mature skin is not a problem. You just need to make a few adjustments in your skincare routine as you age so that skin look its healthiest. We live and breathe skincare so you can trust us on this! Use your savings on male wrinkle removal for a holiday and read our guide on mature skincare.

If you’re reading this, we bet you’ve searched high and low for a male anti-wrinkle cream which will make you look like a glowing 20-year-old again. I’m sure this won’t come as a surprise but sorry my friend, most products out there aren’t going to do that.

The best you can do is embrace what growing old does for you. Salt and pepper? It’s sexy. Fine lines around the mouth? It means you live a life of fun and laughter. We’ve watched as the sex symbols of our youth have aged like fine wines (Brad Pitt, George Clooney et al), so we know that getting older is something to take in your stride.

Be Meticulous About Cleansing

Clean skin lets you absorb treatment products like moisturisers and serums more effectively, which shouldn’t be rocket science- if there is a layer of gunk (city pollution, sweat, grease) on your face, how can your moisturiser work any magic? Wash your face morning and night with a gentle face wash.

We also recommend that you adopt the habit of exfoliating twice a week. A face scrub will take the dead skin cells off the surface of the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin). Your skin will look smoother so it reflects light better, which is what makes it look youthfully radiant.

Protect Your Skin

Prevention is key when it comes to ageing. You should be protecting your skin from UV light already but if you aren’t already, start. Opt for a moisturiser with SPF to protect your skin from light damage. You need to use an SPF in the winter too as cumulative sun exposure is what results in fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration and UV rays are present all year round. Opt for a moisturiser with a broad spectrum SPF (which means that it protects you from both UVA and UVB rays). Our Protective Moisturiser contains a broad spectrum SPF15

Just to give you some low down, here’s a quick note on UVA and UVB rays:

  • UVA: Penetrates deep in to the skin and the main culprit of premature skin ageing (think hyperpigmentation and wrinkles). These rays are just as present in the colder and cloudier seasons as they are in the summer.
  • UVB: These shorter rays don’t penetrate the skin as deeply as UVA but they are what cause sunburns. They are most intense during the day’s sunniest hours.

There’s nothing wrong with the odd drink here and there (well not in our eyes anyway) but drinking excessively dilates the capillaries which contributes to skin redness. Not a good look.

When it comes to men and skincare, we have you covered but there are a couple of things we recommend you do so that your skin is at optimum health. Firstly, stop smoking. We all know how bad it is for our overall health but smoking accelerates the process of skin ageing by speeding up the degradation of collagen. Collagen is a protein in the body which gives structure to your skin. When it depletes you lose skin elasticity as well as moisture.
