All Our Moisturisers Are Now Certified CarbonNeutral® in The UK

Here at Bulldog we always try to do the right thing and we are committed to minimising our impact on the environment.

We are proud to say that all our moisturisers are now certified CarbonNeutral® products in the UK. That’s right, our Sensitive, Oil Control, Age Defence, Protective and Energising moisturisers are joining our Original Moisturiser as CarbonNeutral® certified products.

Original Moisturiser (CarbonNeutral® since 2019)

Sensitive Moisturiser (CarbonNeutral® since 2020)

Oil Control Moisturiser (CarbonNeutral® since 2020)

Age Defence Moisturiser (CarbonNeutral® since 2020)

Protective Moisturiser (CarbonNeutral® since 2020)

Energising Moisturiser (CarbonNeutral® since 2020)

This means that their carbon emissions have been reduced to zero in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol. Working with our partners at Natural Capital Partners, we have completely offset the carbon emissions that are produced during the production and distribution of all our moisturisers. This includes the extraction and processing of materials and packaging, manufacturing and distribution of the products.

Understanding Our Impact

We are really proud that all our moisturisers are now accredited as CarbonNeutral® but we won’t be stopping here. As is the Bulldog way, we’ll continue to look at how we can reduce our pawprint.

What Else Have We Done

At Bulldog, we challenge ourselves every day to do the right thing.

Sugarcane Plastic

A move that we’ve already made is moving to sugarcane-based plastic for our tubes. Working with Natural Capital Partners we have calculated that using sugarcane plastic – instead of a standard fossil fuel-based plastic – means that our emissions for each Original Moisturiser are a lovely 19 percent less. Now that’s pretty sweet.

What About Glass?

On our quest to leave no stone unturned, we also investigated what the impact of using glass packaging for our Original Moisturiser would be. It wasn’t pretty. Using glass instead of our sugarcane plastic packaging would mean that our emissions per bottle would increase by approximately 65 per cent. While glass does have a lower carbon footprint per gram, the weight of the packaging required to hold 100ml of product would be far higher than our sugarcane plastic packaging. Moving that glass around would result in significantly greater emissions. We’ll be sticking with the sugarcane plastic for now.

How We Manufacture

For our moisturisers and other emulsions, we use an approach called “Single-Vessel Quenching”. This involves only heating part of the water required to create the product and making the mixture in one vessel. This means we are not heating two vessels and we also use the remaining water to cool the combined mixture. By only heating part of the water, we save a lot of energy. For our Original Moisturiser, we calculate that this saves 60% of the energy versus traditional manufacturing methods.

Our Office is Certified CarbonNeutral®

In addition to our moisturisers, our London head office is also certified CarbonNeutral®. That means that all carbon emissions produced by the energy, water and materials we use in the office as well as by our daily commutes, business travel and the post we send are all reduced to zero in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol.

International CarbonNeutral® Certification

We’re also looking overseas. We’ve also made our Original Moisturiser CarbonNeutral® certified in two additional countries – Germany and France. Just like in the UK, the product’s carbon emissions have been reduced to zero.
